Being in a couple is amazing. Spending quality time together, making precious memories, all that jazz. So why not do it in style? Ever wondered how to match outfits with your partner in a non-cliche way? Here’s your guide to styling matching outfits without being too cringey, for couples of all genders and personal styles.
The Perfect Pair

If you have the means, buying a new pair of shoes together is a great way to visually express your affection for each other, especially if you’re both into fashion. Take a trip to your local Foot Locker or Doc Martens and purchase matching shoes. Whether it's matching Birkenstock clogs, the same pair of heels in different colors, or a unisex sneaker, what matters most is the color and the silhouette/shape. You don’t have to wear the exact same shoe as your partner to match. The key is to coordinate, not always duplicate, so as long as you're matching in either color, shape, or material, you're golden. Regardless, there's no right or wrong way to match! It’s all about you and your partner’s personal styles.
Same Tee, Two Ways

You can never go wrong with a plain t-shirt. Opt for t-shirts in the same color (black or white is usually easiest, but you can go for brighter colors too) and style them to your comfort and preference. Tie it up, leave it loose and baggy, crop it, cut it up, go crazy. Style t-shirts with jewelry in matching metals and/or jeans in the same wash, and for extra points, shoes in the same color and/or style.
Sweet & Simple

Need an anniversary gift? Try going on Etsy and ordering customized sweatshirts for you and your partner. You can get each other’s initials embroidered on the sleeves, either in matching colors or the inverse of each other’s colors for a subtle, but sweet touch. Pair the sweatshirts with your favorite pair of jeans and white sneakers, and you have a casual everyday look for you and your partner to sport. I ordered customized crewnecks for my boyfriend and I last Valentine’s day (see above), and now it’s my favorite thing to wear when we hang out.
No matter how you match, the key is to stay true to your personal styles. Fashion is a vessel to express yourself, and I believe that it's a great way to demonstrate your love for your partner in a sweet and subtle manner. Stay tuned for more quick styling tips.
